Some people have accumulated fat in the pelvis area, which has become trapped subcutaneously and is difficult to get rid of through slimming diets and physical exercise. This accumulation may be due to family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness.

Abdominal liposculpture can increase confidence and improve appearance. It is the most popular area for liposculpture. Reduction of fatty deposits in the upper abdomen decreases the sense of fullness experienced when bending forwards. Reduction of the lower abdominal apron and hips results in a tighter waist. Patients often experience better posture and less back discomfort after abdominal liposculpture.

Procedure

It is up to the surgeon to decide how much fat should be removed, taking the client’s silhouette as a whole into consideration, so that the proper proportions can be respected.

There are three common variations to the procedure:

  • Traditional liposuction is surgical suctioning of excess fat deposits
  • The tumescent or super-wet technique requires an infusion of saline solution with adrenaline and possibly anesthetic prior to removal of excess fat
  • Ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty uses ultrasonic energy to liquefy excess fat prior to surgical suctioning

Recovery

Once your procedure is completed, a compression garment or elastic bandages may cover treatment areas. These help to control swelling and compress the skin to your new body contours.

Recovery is usually quick, with patients returning to light to moderate activities the same day.

Results

As swelling subsides, your new contours and enhanced self-image should continue to develop. The fulfillment you feel from the initial results of liposuction should continue as long as you control your weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

A significant weight gain can reverse your results. Following liposculpture, your slimmer and better-proportioned body should more accurately reflect the healthy and active life you lead.
